Structured Human Factors Assessments for Pilot Training, Development and Aviation Recruitment. Evaluated across four vectors informed by ICAO Safety Intelligence, Just Culture, CRM, and IATA SMS principles — by a human assessor with 23.5 years inside the industry.
Foundation and Early Career candidates can be assessed at the beginning of training and reassessed later to track development — giving schools, training organisations, and recruitment partners a consistent, evidence-based view of human factors progress over time.

Discuss a PartnershipStandard aviation recruitment assesses qualifications, experience, and track record. Very few firms assess how a candidate actually communicates safety — the language they use under pressure, the authority gradients they create, the cultural assumptions they make, and the gaps they reveal when challenged.
Within an increasingly data-informed safety environment, these behaviours are far more than 'soft skills'. Communication, reporting culture, decision-making and leadership directly influence how effectively safety information is identified, shared and acted upon. A Safety Director who deflects questions, an Accountable Manager who creates an atmosphere where crew don't report freely, a Chief Pilot whose communication breaks down under pressure, a pilot who doesn't report safety issues, a pilot who doesn't use closed loop communication — these are not just poor hires. They are systemic risks.
LMB Consulting Services provides a structured, forensic assessment of these human factors indicators — analysed from recorded video interviews and delivered as a clear, evidence-based report, informed by ICAO Safety Intelligence principles and aligned with the direction of Annex 19 Amendment 2.
Each assessment analyses a structured interview using a proprietary four-vector framework informed by established Human Factors, CRM and safety-management principles, including relevant themes reflected in ICAO Safety Intelligence guidance.
LMB Consulting Services assesses human factors and behavioural evidence — communication, leadership, and safety culture indicators. It does not assess technical flying competence, simulator performance, licensing proficiency, or any matter requiring flight-instructor or examiner qualification. Those remain the responsibility of appropriately qualified flight instructors or examiners.
This vector examines how the candidate identifies risk, anticipates potential safety concerns and reasons beyond simple rule compliance. The assessment looks for evidence of proactive safety thinking, appropriate judgement and an ability to recognise how individual actions can influence wider operational safety.
This vector examines whether the candidate's communication style supports open reporting, appropriate challenge and constructive responses to safety concerns. It looks for evidence of psychological safety, accountability and a willingness to raise or receive concerns without unnecessary blame or defensiveness.
This vector examines how the candidate communicates when complexity, workload or pressure increase. It looks at whether they remain clear, concise and precise, whether they adapt their communication appropriately, and whether important safety information remains understandable when cognitive load is high.
This vector examines whether the candidate follows communication and decisions through to completion. It looks for evidence that important information is acknowledged, understanding is verified, actions are followed up and unresolved safety concerns are not simply left open. Effective closed-loop behaviour helps reduce ambiguity and missed information.
Foundation and Early Career candidates can be assessed at the beginning of training and reassessed later in the programme, giving schools and training organisations a consistent, evidence-based picture of how human factors develop over time — not just a single snapshot.
A Foundation or Early Career candidate is assessed early in their programme, establishing a clear baseline across all four vectors and identifying specific areas for coaching and development.
The same candidate is reassessed later in training, showing measurable development against the original baseline — useful evidence for both the candidate and the training organisation.
Foundation and Early Career candidates receive a Training & Development Report focused on growth areas and coaching recommendations, distinct from the Decision-Support / Human Factors Assessment Report used for recruitment and senior candidates.
Every vector is scored against the same five-level framework. Training & Development candidates are assessed using developmental language focused on growth and coaching. Recruitment assessments use decision-support language appropriate to candidate selection.
Demonstrates consistent proactive safety thinking, minimises authority gradients, builds genuine Just Culture environments, and closes loops with verified outcomes.
Strong human factors awareness with minor gaps under pressure. Demonstrates most safety intelligence behaviours consistently, with targeted development areas identified.
Demonstrates an adequate understanding of Human Factors principles, with some inconsistencies or development areas identified under pressure or in more complex scenarios.
Several Human Factors behaviours require targeted development before the candidate progresses to more demanding professional environments.
Leadership or communication style appears to discourage frontline safety reporting, working against effective information sharing. Evasive under pressure, culturally rigid, assumes comprehension without verification.

Founder, LMB Consulting Services · Southend-on-Sea, Essex, UK
I spent more than 20 years working as cabin crew and an inflight service instructor at Saudi Airlines. In that time, I watched thousands of hours of human behaviour under pressure — how people communicate when things are difficult, how they lead when the stakes are high, and where the gaps appear between what someone says and what they actually do.
That experience taught me something that no qualification can fully capture: how a person behaves in the room tells you more than their CV ever will.
I founded LMB Consulting Services to bring that observation capability into aviation training, development and recruitment. I use a structured approach to assess Human Factors and behavioural evidence through scenario-based interviews, helping pilots identify strengths and development areas while giving training organisations and recruitment specialists clearer insight into the non-technical behaviours that technical qualifications alone may not reveal.
My assessment framework is informed by ICAO Safety Intelligence principles, CRM, Just Culture and SMS concepts, and reflects the direction of Annex 19 Amendment 2.
The observations in every report are grounded in credentials that very few consultants in this field possess simultaneously.
Senior cabin crew with deep operational knowledge of Gulf aviation culture, international safety protocols, and multicultural crew dynamics across decades of international operations.
IATA SMS training provides an important safety-management foundation that informs the assessment methodology.
Crew Resource Management qualification — covering communication, decision-making, situational awareness, authority gradients, and leadership under operational pressure.
3.5 years delivering SMS and service training to international cabin crew — direct experience of how safety culture is communicated, absorbed, and resisted in practice.
Community interpreting in high-stakes legal, medical, and mental health settings — an advanced ability to detect nuance, evasion, stress indicators, and comprehension gaps in spoken communication.
Assessments and reports available in three languages. Critical for Gulf, MENA, and international operators where cultural communication dynamics carry direct safety implications.
Formally certified in UK GDPR compliance, with professional experience handling sensitive personal data in regulated financial services — ensuring the secure, compliant management of all candidate video recordings and assessment data.
Assessments are informed by ICAO's Safety Intelligence principles and reflect the direction of the November 2026 Annex 19 Amendment 2 requirements, giving clients evidence based human factors insight at the shortlist stage.
